Rapoon - 2009 - Wasteland Raga

Release type: Full-length

Style: Dark Ambient

Country: UK

Label: Aquarellist

Format: MP3@VBR V2

Size: 86 mb

MySpace

About Release:

"While I was recently traveling through Eastern Europe recently , I passed through an area of industrial decline that reminded me strongly of the devastation of the Industrial heartlands of the UK during the early Thatcher years. The broken windows and twisted metal of the abandoned warehouses, the derelict pit-heads and the ruined factories all brought back memories of that grim time when the divide between rich and poor was never so obvious. Yet amongst the derelict factories and the red-brick estates of the North of England new music and art sprang forth as if driven by the desolate conditions. Out of the darkness came forth beauty in many forms.     Wasteland raga is a remembrance of those times when art and politics held close and intertwined out of a real sense of purpose and unity. Now we have the bland unoriginal days of New Labour and the suits , bland self-satisfied music, and the crassness of yet another bad "art installation" in a "city of culture". Passing through the derelict wastelands of Industrial decline in Eastern Europe I was touched with nostalgia for a time when there was a sense of "us and them".  Art has stuck it's fat lazy arse on the side of the suits and the money men. Viva revolution!!!" Robin Storey                                                                                   Released on Russian label Aquarellist. Limited edition of 1000 copies.

Rapoon - 2009 - Melancholic Songs Of The Desert

Release type: Full-length

Style: Dark Ambient

Country: United Kingdom

Label: Soleilmoon Recordings

Format:MP3@VBR V2

Size: 80 mb

Official/Preview: MySpace

About Release:

The Melancholic songs of the desert... These songs were composed during the last days of the Bush/Blair era and reflect the feeling of isolation and disconnection from any part of the political process and any sense of identification with the prevailing air of hos- tility and intolerance generated by this pair of religious xenophobes. The unjustified war in Iraq and the subse- quent lies and propaganda engendered a feeling of revulsion and powerlessness. Once again it was “unpa- triotic” to criticize or protest against the government’s actions, and there was a rise in nationalism and extrem- ist views. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and mediative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of “walkabout” and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. In a broad- er sense they also re-affirm long held sympathies with the thoughts of writers and philosophers such as Camus, Sartre and Burroughs, and the profound wisdom of eastern philosophies such as Taoism and Zen. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation

Rapoon - 2007 - Time Frost

Release type: Full-length

Style: Dark Ambient

Country:  United Kingdom

Label: Glacial Movements Records

Format: MP3@CBR 224 Kbps

Size:  96 mb

Official/Preview: MySpace

About Release:

"One of the predicted swings in the weather due to global warming is paradoxically a new ice age which could envelope Europe. Time Frost is music based upon this concept and uses tiny fragments of music from an iconic European composition, Johann Strauss's Blue Danube. I imagined that tiny pieces of former cultures survived locked in the ice and waiting for future archaeologists to discover and interpret them.I used vinyl lock grooves of the Blue Danube (from the 1968 MGM recording for the film soundtrack 2001 ) These formed the starting points for the five compositions in Time Frost which were then manipulated and added to and re-arranged into new compositions. Time Frost is an imaginary recording of the mutational process of sound locked into ice and transformed over millenia. Like ghosts of music trapped in an evershifting permafrost. Robin Storey, August 2007"
